by: Nancy R. Fenn Ever since Pluto went into Sagittarius back in February 1995, we have been experiencing changes and transformation along the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. These are some of the changes.
1. Terrorism - Terrorism could not exist without foreign travel and clashes of culture (Sagittarius). Americans are now dealing with individuals who did not go through the knightly experience of the Middle Ages. Arabs don't publicly declare war. They don't wear uniforms. And they don't confine their attacks to members of the military. In fact, they might think it would be stupid to do any of these things.
2. Cell Phones - The biggest impact of cell phones (Gemini) is their negative assault of personal distance, a form of air pollution and crowding that make life miserable for many sensitive people -- and the danger of accidents while driving. Cell phones are ruled by Gemini; driving is ruled by Sagittarius. Each of these activities uses a different side of the brain. Few people if any can do both at the same time safely. In short, talking on a cell phone destroys your ability to judge distances and track traffic patterns.
3. Asthma - On the increase worldwide. More than physiological, asthma is a symptom of an overcrowded world. People are literally choking on each other.
4. SARS - The death sentence you get from breathing (Gemini).
5. Slavery - Slavery is ruled by Sagittarius. A small indication of possible things to come was the announcement just after Pluto entered Sagittarius that Thomas Jefferson had illegitimate children with his Afro-American slave.
6. Violence in Schools and Distance Learning - Schools (elementary and high school) are ruled by Gemini. Sagittarius rules college and beyond; also distance learning. The entire school experience is being transformed during this transit.
7. Foreign Languages - The Department of Labor has just announced that among the top ten employment skills for the 21st Century are knowledge of a foreign language, especially Japanese and Russian. This is indicated to be a result of the Internet and eCommerce. The Internet is ruled by Gemini and its existence and proliferation are part of the transformation of Pluto through Sagittarius.
8. Publishing - Publishing is ruled by Sagittarius and we would all agree that this field has undergone so much transformation in the past 8 years as to be in a state of trauma at the moment -- notwithstanding the record-breaking sales of JK Rawling.
9. Burial of the Tsar and his family - All members of Tsar Nicholas II's family have prominent Gemini/Sagittarius charts as do many other members of the Romanov family whose birth times are available. The bodies of the murdered Tsar and his family were discovered, identified for certain using DNA tests and given proper (though controversial) burial.
10. Pedophilic Catholic Priests - One of my prayers for this transit was the downfall of the Roman Catholic Church. "Religion" is ruled by Sagittarius.
11. Relocation - Count how many people you know in your personal circle who are relocating recently. There are dramatic geographical shifts occurring. For example, people are leaving California in droves.
12. Brothers and Sisters - Count the famous brothers and sisters in the news or the issues involving siblings. Princess Margaret's death brought many sibling rivalry issues to the forefront. President Bush was elected during a Mercury Retrograde (Gemini). The winning votes were counted by his brother, the governor of Florida. Bush has twin daughters (Gemini). Cain and Abel are grotesquely reversed when siblings are genetically engineered and given birth to save the lives of an older terminally ill child (in Great Britain). Movies like "The Royal Tannebaums" feature a doomed love affair between siblings who are "not really siblings" (Gemini rules incest). Today we can add, tragically, two more sibling pairs, the Hussein brothers and the Bijani sisters.
13. Mental Illness - Excellent movies on this topic have surfaced such as the pre-eminent "A Beautiful Mind".
14. Animal Rights Issues - In 2001, Marjorie Knoller and her husband, Robert Noel were convicted for the mauling death of Diane Whipple by their two Preso-Canario mastiffs, Bane and Hera. Today, exotic pets are in the news with the spread of the Monkey Virus.
15. The Spelling Bee (ruled by Gemini) - "Spellbound" wins a nomination for best documentary feature (a film showing at Landmark Theaters around the country of 14 year olds preparing for the Spelling Bee). 16. Shrinking Globe (Sagittarius) - More and more, especially with the Internet, it's a shrinking world. The alpha personality of the 21st Century is the Gemini/Sag mutable personality, well traveled, comfortable with cultural relativity, able to speak several languages, flexible and eager to process information at the speed of light!
